Polonnaruwa Kingdom, or the Ancient City of Polonnaruwa, was the capital city for three centuries after the Anuradhapura Kingdom fell, lasting from the 11th to the 13th century following its demise in 993. Situated in Sri Lanka's north-central province, its archaeological significance and ancient technological excellence earned Polonnaruwa World Heritage status by UNESCO in 1982. They were recognized with this honourable recognition under their original title: Ancient City of Polonnaruwa.
